    Mohair Care

Mohair is a natural fibre that stands out for its countless qualities such as softness, shine, lightness and heating power, but it needs to be well cared for to maximise these attributes. It’s a natural hair, so Mohair will always tend to shed some hair which is completely normal so don’t be alarmed.

As there are many people who do not know this natural fiber, here’s what to do to make your scarf/ blanket perfect all year round:

    • The first thing we need is a hard clothes-brush. Using this, brush the scarf/blanket in the direction of the nap. How to check which direction is right? Combing in the right direction of the hair will result in a scarf/blanket that is very smooth. If you comb against the direction of the hair the hair becomes bristly and it is difficult to move the brush - that direction is wrong!
    • Once you have brushed the scarf/blanket well, check the brush - if there is hair left on the brush, it means that the scarf/blanket is a little dry. So it is recommended to moisten it a little bit with a water spray and then brush again. When the scarf/blanket is wet you will notice that this aspect changes. As soon as it dries it will look perfect, as if it had just been bought.

If it is the end of the winter season and you think you will not need the scarf/blanket until the next season, it is recommended to shake it a little, air it, then brush it, fold it well and put it in a plastic bag in a closed place. This way, it will keep its condition intact for the new season.

  • Mantas Ezcaray is a family business in Ezcaray, Spain, founded by Cecilio Valgañón, in 1930, transforming the production of wool on handlooms to make exquisite scarves, shawls + blankets from Mohair, Cashmere, Alpaca and Pure Wool. They are now the only producers left in Spain.
They continue to keep alive the traditional skills of washing, dying + weaving this wool by a handmade process and weave with the best natural fibers that nature provides from ethical wool only.

Using a manual and handcrafted manufacturing process in times where technology is constantly evolving distinguishes them + makes them unique both in delicate weaving and class. They only use wool that is free from mulesing and respects the five principles of animal welfare according to the Farm Animal Welfare Council.

With such incredible attention to detail it’s not surprising they make simply the best scarves - each one unique.
