'Waste not' 2L hot water bottle designed for Lapuan Kankurit by Helmi Liikanen in 2019 with pale rose-blue cover sewn from excess material. Helmi says the pattern on this soft + cosy, 100% pure new wool cover 'is a fun and more experimental combination of different weaves and warp densities.'

The handmade feel of these covers is light, delicate + soft.

Inspired by the zero waste ideology Lapuan Kankurit are continuously working for improving the effective use of raw materials in their own production lines, weaving all products to the desired length to minimize the loss of material..  but still while weaving + sewing, they can end up with some extra fabric being cut off. To value the work done to weave the raw material best they want to are not willing to waste. TULPPAANI hot water bottle covers are sewn from the excess material.

Like us here at iris Lifestyle, everything Lapuan Kankurit do is transparent; they take a stand against fast-consumption or short-lived, cheap production and take good care of their employees, partners + clients.

Lapuan Kankurit have a weaving mill in Lapua, western finland where they manufacture products from yarn to a finished product that stand the test of time whilst keeping their environmental footprint as small as possible. They only use ecological, certified materials.

Lapuan Kankurit’s strategy is to be responsible for the whole production from yarn to readymade products. Most of their production is done in their own weaving mills in Lapua. Where production is not possible in Lapua, it is done in their own subsidiary sewing company/ partly owned factory in Lithuania. This means they can be part of companies’ sustainable development.

These hot water bottle's product development and design, material purchasing, structure of the fabric and programming of the jacquard machines are done in their own weaving mill in Finland. Warping, weaving, finishing, and fabric inspection is done in Lithuania in their partly owned weaving mill. Sewing is done in both Lithuania and Finland.
